〈雪が積もった4月末の日〉
9年前の今日、2016年4月30日。ゴールデンウイークの最中の雪が、糠平湖の湖底をまっ白に戻していた。このあたりでは連休が明けるまでは、こうして簡単に冬が帰って来る。
雪解け水を集めたタウシュベツ川は流れに勢いがあり、雪景色の中に瀬音がひびいていた。景色だけ見れば真冬と変わらないのに、気温はもうそれほど低くない。ただ白い湖面とアーチ橋を穏やかな気持ちで眺めていられる春の雪だった。
April 30, 2016 — smack in the middle of Golden Week, yet a fresh snowfall turned the bottom of Lake Nukabira pure white again. Up here, winter likes to drop by until at least early May.
The Taushubetsu River, swollen with meltwater, rushed past, its sound cutting through the quiet snow scene. It looked exactly like mid‑winter, but the air had already warmed; no gloves needed. So I just stood there, listening to the river and taking in the white lake surface with the concrete arches beyond. A spring snowfall you can watch in total calm.
