〈連休初日、訪れる人なきタウシュベツ〉
19年前の今日、2006年4月29日。タウシュベツ川橋梁の周りにはまだ氷が張り、雪も残っていた。当時はこれが当たり前の景色で、春でも湖底が白いままということに特別の驚きはなかったように思う。
この頃の橋はまだほとんど知られておらず、ゴールデンウィーク初日だったはずだけれど、訪れる人は皆無。ほんの20年ほどだけれど、今と比べるとその変化には驚かされるものがある。
それでも「あと二、三年で崩れる」という話題はすでにあった。写真を見返すと、コンクリートの表面は荒れ、たしかに崩れそうにも見える。ただ、現状を知るいまの目で見ると、思ったより頑丈そうにも見えるのだから不思議だ。
二十年足らずで、気候も環境も、人の流れも大きく変わった。けれど橋は崩れそうで崩れないまま、今日も立っている。
Nineteen years ago today—April 29, 2006—I was standing beside the Taushubetsu River Bridge.
Back then the lake was still frozen and patched with snow, even this late in April, so the white‑washed scene didn’t feel unusual.
The bridge was barely known; it was the first day of Golden Week, yet no one else came. It’s hard to believe how much has changed in less than twenty years.
People were already saying, “It’ll collapse in two or three years.” Looking at the photo, the concrete looks rough enough to believe it. But knowing the bridge is still up in 2025, it suddenly feels stronger than it looks.
Climate, landscape, and visitor numbers have all shifted, but the “about‑to‑collapse” arch still stands today.
