〈切株群の向こうにタウシュベツ川橋梁〉
11年前の今日、2014年4月26日。雪も氷もほとんど消えた糠平湖の湖底に立ち、タウシュベツ川橋梁を撮っていた。
足元に広がるのはぬかるんだ土、そして無数の切株だ。当時は切株の数が今の数倍は多く、湖底一面が切株畑のようになっていた。かつて森だった証しが、そのまま荒涼を強調していた。
On 26 April 2014—exactly eleven years ago—I was out on the bare floor of Lake Nukabira, shooting Taushubetsu Bridge. Snow and ice were mostly gone; what spread under my boots was soft mud and a forest of old stumps.
Back then there were several times more stumps than you see today, turning the lakebed into a grey “stump field,” a blunt reminder that this place was once deep forest.
