〈大きく架かる虹に息を飲んだ夕暮れどき〉
13年前の今日、2012年4月25日の夕方、雨と晴れと天気がめまぐるしく変わる糠平湖でタウシュベツ川橋梁を撮っていた。
まだ湖底には氷が残り、吹いてくる風はひんやりと感じられる。
雨が降ったと思うと西日が射し込む。そんなことが繰り返されるうちに橋の上に何度か虹が現れ、やがて大きな半円がアーチ橋の上に架かった。
翌年、2013年に東京で開催した初めての個展で大きく伸ばしたプリントを展示し、その後も各地で展示を重ねた思い入れのある場面に出会った日のことだ。
On this day in 2012, April 25, I was at Lake Nukabira for sunset. The weather flipped between showers and bright sun, and cold air blew off the ice still clinging to the lakebed.
Rain would fall, then a beam of western light broke through, and each time a faint rainbow touched Taushubetsu Bridge. After a few tries, a full arc finally settled right over the concrete arches.
I printed that frame big for my first solo show in Tokyo the next year, and it’s been a favorite image in every exhibit since.
