〈雪降り積もる糠平湖、霞むタウシュベツ川橋梁〉
11年前の今日、2014年4月4日は、雪が降りしきるタウシュベツ川橋梁に足を運んでいた。今となっては、この時期に橋の近くまで行くのはなかなか大変だけれど、当時は林道を車で行くことができた。
雪の林道を片道4キロ。今では躊躇してしまうけれど、当時はよくあの道を走っていたものだと思う。
大粒の雪があっという間に積もり、車のわだちすらすぐ白く消えていく。冬でもなく、春とも言いきれない時期にそんな道を走っていた。
降りしきる雪がタウシュベツ川橋梁を霞ませ、アーチの形が白いベールの向こうに浮かび上がった。
Eleven years ago today—April 4, 2014—I drove out to the Taushubetsu Bridge during a heavy snowfall. These days, it’s pretty hard to get close to the bridge at this time of year, but back then, I could still drive along a forest road.
That 4-kilometer stretch covered in snow seems daunting now, but I used to tackle it without much hesitation. Giant flakes piled up in no time, erasing even my tire tracks. It wasn’t exactly winter, but it wasn’t quite spring either—just that awkward in-between season where you’d drive through falling snow.
The swirling flakes made the Taushubetsu Bridge look hazy, almost as if its arches were floating behind a white veil.
